Over the Sea to the Isle of Skye
Days 4 and 5 we cross the roof of Scotland to Skye, driving through some of the most spectacular scenery the Highlands has to offer. The Misty Isle is legendary not just for the Red Cuillin and Black Cuillin Mountains but for the contrast of the Jurassic North End, the Trotternish Peninsula. Amongst the rich history of the island is the tale of Irish Warriors being trained by a Gaelic Princess, a Stuart King visiting and giving his name to the Island Capital Port Righ, the King’s Port and the courageous tale of the island heroine Flora MacDonald who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape the clutches of the redcoat soldiers of the British Army.

Days 6 & 7
Fort William, Glencoe & Oban
Leaving Skye by ferry, we take the “Road to the Isles” to the picturesque hamlet of Glenfinnan on the peaceful shores of Loch Shiel. Here lies the beautiful Church of St Mary and St Finnan, a memorial chapel to the Clan MacDonald who were first to rise to the standard of the Jacobite Cause. The views across Loch Linnhe to Fort William and Ben Nevis are simply spectacular. Nearby we see the Glenfinnan Viaduct and railway made famous as The Hogwart’s Express in Harry Potter movies. On the road to Oban we visit the “Glen of Weeping,” the mystical, magical valley of Glencoe. This remnant of various ice ages and glacial melts enthralls with stunning scenery that takes your breath away!
Next is the idyllic port town of Oban, often called the gem of the Western Highlands, where Robert the Bruce won a famous battle. Today’s highlights will also include the ruin of Kilchurn Castle, a one-time stronghold of Clan Campbell and a romantic farewell lunch on the bonnie banks of the world-famous Loch Lomond. Finally, we traverse the scenic Ben Lomond mountain expanse, less than an hour away from Glasgow and a wee bit further from Edinburgh. Either city can herald the finale of your romantic Highland encounter.
