Travel is one of the most exciting things we can do. It’s a chance to experience new cultures, foods, people and incredible sights. However, as amazing as travel can be, it can also be stressful and challenging. When something goes wrong on a trip, it can feel like the whole vacation is falling apart. The difference between being stressed on a vacation, and going with the flow can make or break the experience. Practicing the power of flexibility in travel can truly make for a bon voyage.

Being flexible is one sure way to maintain a positive outlook on the vacation, and make the most of your trip!

The power of flexibility means not letting little unforeseen details break the whole trip. It means letting go of the unpredictable moments and embracing the bigger picture. Travel is a break from your daily life, enjoy the whole experience.

Here are our top tips for taking the stress out of your travel days and enjoying a great vacation.

Be Flexible

The first thing you should know is this: Plans are going to change. You might miss a plane, a restaurant might be closed, you might wake up late. Don’t stress. Sometimes, the small hiccups actually enhance the good times!

Once, our founder, Tish, went on a family vacation and they missed a train. At first, they weren’t thrilled, but they soon realized missing the train would still work out. They discovered that one member of the group had the wrong ticket, and could not travel on the original train. So, by missing the train, they were able to stay together. Even though it was unfortunate at first, it worked out better than using their original tickets. This is just one small example to show that flexibility is key and that not all broken plans make for a bad trip.

Be Patient

Something that is a typical stressor of flying is the TSA security line. We’ve all been there before, stuck in the line, watching the minutes tick away. Your plane boards in 20 minutes, and you might not make it. This is a stressful situation that most of us have experienced at least once. However, a key factor to maintaining a good trip is patience. Everyone in line with you is probably just as concerned as you are. The only thing to do at this moment is to breathe and remind yourself that it’s going to work out. No matter what, you still get to accomplish what you set out to do. Waiting is part of life and patience is key. Remember, your trip won’t fall apart just because you wanted to move through the activities faster. Take a moment to enjoy the breaks!

Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude

Don’t let anything stand in the way of your fun. Travel is a joyful experience and should be something that enhances your life. By practicing the power of flexibility, you’ll find that the only real thing that can ruin a trip is attitude. Remember to breathe, persevere and have an amazing trip.
